When I started, I was focusing on trails near my home to get outside and these 5 trails are just a starting point.
But before you head some things to keep in mind:
Check trail conditions before you go via the National Park Service Website, during colder months the roads may be closed. I signed up for the text messaging service for Skyline Drive which will let me know about when the closures are happening and also what mile marker.
Be sure to wear appropriate footwear and clothing, and pack plenty of water and snacks, even for the shorter hikes.
I currently use Alltrails to download maps in advance, read reviews from other hikers and add my own thoughts here and there.
Be mindful of trail etiquette to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. This includes staying on designated trails, yielding to other hikers, and packing out all trash and have your dogs on leash.
With its breathtaking scenery and diverse trails, Central Virginia offers the perfect setting for a memorable hiking adventure, no matter your experience level.
Start with these beginner-friendly options, and will want to do more challenging peaks and discovering the hidden gems of the Blue Ridge and Skyline regions.
