Walk The Year

A year-long hiking practice with Ridge Raven

One walk a week.
No shortcuts.
Something rooted when you’re done.

This is not a fitness challenge.

The Ridge Raven Trail Year is a quiet, sustained hiking practice for people who want the trail to mean something, without turning it into a performance, a streak, or another thing to fail at.

No mileage goals.
No pace pressure.
No pretending.

Just one walk a week, for a year.

Who this is for

Walk the Year is for you if:

  • You crave consistency, not intensity
  • You want a reason to keep walking when motivation fades
  • You love the trail but hate loud “challenge culture”
  • You want something steady to return to each week
  • You walk with dogs — including reactive, anxious, or opinionated ones
  • You want your time outside to count without being measured

This is not about conquering terrain.

It’s about staying in motion.

How Walk the Year works

Each week, you walk once.

That’s the only requirement.

To guide the practice, you’ll receive one sentence per week — a simple prompt to walk with, not perform for.

Examples:

  • Walk like you belong here.
  • Let the slowest being set the pace.
  • What are you carrying that isn’t yours?

You don’t need to journal.
You don’t need to post.
You don’t need proof.

The walk counts whether anyone sees it or not.

What you receive

When you join Walk the Year, you’ll get:

  • 52 weekly walking prompts (one sentence each)
  • The Walk the Year Companion Journal (printable + tablet-friendly)
  • Quarterly check-ins to reflect and recalibrate
  • Trail Marks at key milestones (quiet proof, not loud badges)

And when you complete the year:

  • A tree planted in your name
  • A digital completion certificate
  • Tree region and year recognition

You walked the land for a year.
We rooted something back.

About the Companion Journal

The Companion Journal is not homework.

It’s a container.

Each week includes:

  • A simple trail log (date, location, weather — optional)
  • Space to note what you noticed
  • One line to carry forward

There are no trackers.
No habit streaks.
No forced reflection.

Some weeks you’ll write a lot.
Some weeks you won’t write at all.

Both count.

Trail Marks (brag without cringe)

Instead of loud badges, Walk the Year uses Trail Marks — subtle milestones that mark continuation, not achievement.

Milestones:

  • Week 13 — First Quarter
  • Week 26 — Halfway
  • Week 39 — Deep Season
  • Week 52 — Walk the Year Complete

Language stays simple:

Walk the Year · Week 26
Still walking.

Share if you want.
Ignore if you don’t.

Optional physical marker

After completing Walk the Year, you may choose to add:

The Walk the Year Raven Token

  • A small wooden token
  • Hand-burned raven + year
  • Earned only after completion

Not merch.
A marker.

This is not about perfection

You will miss weeks.

You will walk when you don’t feel like it.
You will skip journaling.
You will circle the same trail again and again.

You don’t fail.

You resume.

Walk the Year is built on continuity, not willpower.
